Announcing the Soloists for our April Performances of Carmina Burana

The Catskill Choral Society’s two performances of Carl Orff’s most famous work will take place on April 26th and 27th in the First United Methodist Church in Oneonta, and will feature soloists Laura Enslin, Brian Collett, and David Kolb.  They will join the 70-member Catskill Choral Society and full orchestra under the direction of the Society’s conductor and artistic director, Dr.  G. Roberts Kolb

 Laura Enslin’s solo engagements have included Symphoria and its predecessor, the Syracuse Symphony; Buffalo Philharmonic; Syracuse Opera; Syracuse Friends of Chamber Music; Society for New Music; Springfield (Mo.) Symphony; Lake Placid Sinfonietta; Cayuga Chamber Orchestra; Onondaga Civic Symphony; Syracuse University Brass Ensemble; and Syracuse University Oratorio Society, to name a few. Laura’s solo repertoire includes music by Vivaldi, Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Mahler and Villa-Lobos. Her operatic and stage roles include Nedda (I Pagliacci), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Adel (Die Fledermaus), Atalanta (Serse), Barbarina (Le Nozze di Figaro), Madame Herz (Der Schauspieldirektor), Norina (Don Pasquale), Marie (La Fille du Régiment), Laurette (Doctor Miracle), Cecile (Iolanthe), Mrs. Hayes (Susannah), Dorine (Tartuffe), and Guinevere (Camelot).

 

Brian Collett has loved singing since his first experience of a choir at age 7. After singing countertenor while studying physics in college, he switched to baritone and sang with the Princeton Chapel Choir for four years. Since coming to Clinton in 1986 he has sung with the Oratorio Society and then Masterworks Chorale almost every semester as well as singing with the College Hill Camerata and with Tapestry. He has been heard as a soloist in a number of works with the Masterworks Chorale and Tapestry as well as roles in several Gilbert and Sullivan operettas both at the Capitol Theatre in Rome and at the Earlville Opera House. He was a student of Lauralyn Kolb for a number of years.

David Kolb holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hamilton College with dual concentrations in mathematics and music, and has studied voice with Lauralyn Kolb and with Timothy LeFebvre. He has appeared as a soloist with the Hamilton College and Community Masterworks Chorale, the Greater Utica Choral Society, the Mohawk Valley Choral Society, the Catskill Symphony, the Catskill Choral Society, and the Oneida Area Civic Chorale, He has performed in many local theatrical productions, including shows with Rome Summerstage, Stage Two, Players of Utica, the Earlville Opera House, and Open Hand Theater.  David is the Minister of Music at New Hartford Presbyterian Church, and is the Artistic Director and conductor for the Mohawk Valley Choral Society.
