We Are Excited to Announce Our ’23-’24 Season

Did you know?

  • The first performance of the MESSIAH was performed in Dublin and not in London.
  •  16 men and 16 boys made up the first chorus and  the original scoring called for 2 trumpets, timpani, 2 oboes,  2 violins, viola, and basso continuo.
  • Handel composed the full score in less than one month after receiving the libretto.
  • The texts for CARMINA BURANA  are drawn from 13th century texts written by monks who were letting their hair down.
  • The first version, large orchestra and  large chorus, proved to be so popular that a smaller version scored for two pianos and percussion was arranged so that smaller ensembles could preform the work.

The Catskill Choral Society is excited to announce the performances of two local favorites.

Not since 1998 have we performed Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, and the seasonal favorite, Handel’s Messiah, has not been performed locally since 2018. Both programs will feature instrumentalists and soloists, and take place in the First United Methodist Church, well known for its marvelous acoustics.

This program, sponsored in part by Five Star Subaru, is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by Chenango Arts Council with support from the Governor and the New York Legislature.
